Nebraska
Appraiser Continuing Education Requirements

If you hold a Nebraska appraiser credential, Nebraska currently uses a two-year continuing education period, but the Board’s renewal process can result in either a one-year or two-year renewal depending on where you are in your CE cycle. Nebraska law defines the two-year continuing education period in Neb. Rev. Stat. § 76-2218, and the Board’s current 2026-27 renewal materials explain that a credential holder may renew for one or two years depending on the appraiser’s CE-period status.

What Nebraska appraisers need

Nebraska requires 28 hours of approved continuing education during the applicable two-year continuing education period. The governing statute, Neb. Rev. Stat. § 76-2236, and the Board’s current Real Property Appraiser Continuing Education Requirements both support that requirement. Nebraska also requires each continuing-education activity to be at least two hours long.

Nebraska’s current Board guidance also states that all 28 hours may be completed through distance education. The Board’s current renewal questions and answers further explain that excess credits generally may not be carried into another continuing-education cycle.

USPAP requirement

As part of the CE requirement, Nebraska requires the 7-hour National USPAP Continuing Education Course, or its equivalent, at least once every two years. The statute and Board guidance both say that this course must be included in each credential holder’s continuing-education compliance. The Board’s 2026-27 CE requirements document also explains that the due date is measured from the last time the course was completed, not simply from the start of the CE cycle.

Valuation Bias and Fair Housing requirement

Beginning January 1, 2026, Nebraska requires a board-approved valuation bias and fair housing laws course as part of each credential holder’s continuing-education requirements. Nebraska’s statute now says that, as prescribed by Board rules and at least once every two years, a successfully completed board-approved valuation bias and fair housing laws course must be included in the continuing-education requirement of each credential holder. The Board’s current 2026-27 CE requirements document states that appraisers who have not completed the 8-hour VBFH course must complete the 7-hour course within two calendar years, and afterward must complete either the 7-hour or 4-hour version at least once every two years.

One Nebraska-specific point is especially important: the Board’s current CE requirements document states that the valuation bias and fair housing laws and regulations course cannot be used toward meeting the continuing education requirement within the same two-year continuing education period. In other words, Nebraska currently treats the course as a separate required item rather than ordinary elective CE within that same 28-hour period.

Important Nebraska deadlines

Nebraska’s current Board renewal materials state that renewal applications for the 2026-27 period are generally due by November 30 of the year the credential expires. For credentials issued November 1 or later of the same year, the due date is December 31 instead. If the application is not received by the applicable deadline, the credential holder may still renew until July 1 of the following year, but a $25 late processing fee applies for each month or portion of a month beginning December 1 or, for newer credentials issued on or after November 1, beginning January 1.

The Board’s current materials also explain that a credential holder in the first year of a two-year CE period is generally not required to submit 28 hours of CE with that year’s renewal, except for a required USPAP course if it is due that year.

Current Nebraska renewal fees

Nebraska law authorizes the Board to charge fees, and the Board’s current 2026-27 renewal guidance provides the practical renewal amounts now in use. According to the Board’s current renewal questions and answers, a 1-year credential renewal is $340 and a 2-year credential renewal is $680. The same Board guidance states there is no fee for a 2-year trainee real property appraiser credential renewal. Nebraska’s statute, Neb. Rev. Stat. § 76-2241, separately establishes the Board’s authority to charge fees for its services.

Approved courses

Nebraska maintains an official approved-education system through its website and Appraiser Login resources. The Board’s home page links to NRPAB Approved Education, and the Board’s renewal questions and answers direct appraisers to use the Approved Education Activity Search on the Board’s site to locate approved courses and sort by class type, including asynchronous, hybrid, and synchronous options. Nebraska’s Education page also points providers to the applicable Board rules in Title 298, Chapter 6.

Legal Authority / Compliance References

Nebraska’s current CE framework is grounded in Neb. Rev. Stat. § 76-2218, which defines the two-year continuing-education period, and Neb. Rev. Stat. § 76-2236, which requires continuing education, the 7-hour USPAP course, and, beginning January 1, 2026, the board-approved valuation bias and fair housing laws course. Nebraska’s fee authority appears in Neb. Rev. Stat. § 76-2241. Nebraska’s current operational renewal and fee practices are reflected in the Board’s official 2026-27 Credential Renewal Application, Credential Renewal Questions and Answers, Real Property Appraiser Continuing Education Requirements, Education page, and Board home page.

How to Renew

Nebraska appraisers renew through Appraiser Login on the Board’s website. The Board’s current renewal questions and answers say online renewal becomes available July 1 of the year the credential expires. The Board instructs appraisers to first review and update their contact information, then go to the Education section to upload any required course-completion certificates, and then use the Renew Credential link to answer questions, upload required documents, and pay online using a checking or savings account. Paper renewal forms are also made available after July 1 and may be submitted by mail or in person.

Before renewing, confirm whether you are eligible for a one-year or two-year renewal and whether the Board expects CE certificates with your application that year. Nebraska’s current renewal application specifically states that the full two-year CE period must be satisfactorily completed before renewing for a two-year period, and encourages appraisers to contact the Board in advance if they are unsure about eligibility.

Pro-Tips for 2026

  • Do not assume Nebraska’s new valuation bias and fair housing course works like an ordinary elective. The Board’s current CE document says it cannot be used toward meeting the continuing education requirement within the same two-year continuing education period, so plan your CE schedule accordingly.

  • Check your CE period and USPAP due year inside Appraiser Login before registering for classes. Nebraska’s renewal Q&A explains that a 2025-2026 CE period does not necessarily mean all 28 hours are due in 2025, but a due-year USPAP course still must be completed before December 31 of the year it is due.

  • Nebraska allows all 28 hours to be completed online. That gives appraisers flexibility, but it also makes it important to verify the course is actually approved through the Board’s education-search system before enrolling.

  • Renew early if you can. Nebraska opens online renewal on July 1, but late fees begin after the applicable fall deadline, and the Board’s current materials make clear that incomplete applications can be returned and still leave the appraiser responsible for late processing fees.
