Kansas
Appraiser Continuing Education Requirements

If you hold a Kansas appraiser credential, Kansas uses an annual renewal system, but continuing education runs on a separate two-year cycle. Kansas appraiser credentials expire on June 30 of every year, and renewal applications are due no later than May 31 to avoid a late fee. KREAB’s education page states that the CE cycle runs from July 1 of each odd year through May 31 of the following odd year, or from the date of license issuance through May 31 of the following odd year if issued mid-cycle.

What Kansas appraisers need

Kansas’s current renewal page explains that although each appraiser renews annually, continuing education is generally due in odd-numbered renewal years. In those CE-reporting years, most appraisers must log 28 hours of continuing education. Even-year renewals generally do not require CE logging. KREAB’s FAQ also states that the required CE must be complete by the date of renewal in each odd year.

USPAP requirement

During every two-year education cycle, Kansas requires the 7-hour USPAP Update course as part of the required hours. The Board’s renewal page also makes clear that the 15-hour tested USPAP course cannot be substituted for the update course.

Valuation Bias and Fair Housing requirement

Beginning January 1, 2026, Kansas requires the Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course every two years. KREAB’s education page states that the course will be required every two years, and the Board’s renewal page adds that the first time an appraiser completes the VBFH course, it must be 7 hours in length. KREAB’s approved CE list also shows current approved VBFH offerings.

Important Kansas deadlines

Kansas law says appraiser credentials expire annually on June 30. The current statute on renewal, K.S.A. 58-4112, requires renewal applications to be filed not earlier than 120 days nor later than 30 days prior to expiration. KREAB’s current renewal page says late renewals are accepted through September 30 of each year, and if a license is not renewed within 90 days of expiration, the credential is forfeited and the appraiser must reapply.

Current Kansas renewal fees

KREAB’s current renewal page lists the renewal fee as $200 for provisional licensees and $240 for all other classifications, including the $40 national registry fee. The Board lists the late fee as $50 for all classifications. Kansas statute K.S.A. 58-4107 authorizes the Board to charge a renewal fee and a late-renewal fee.

Approved courses

Kansas’s education page states that course providers must submit applications for approval under K.A.R. 117-6-3, that courses are re-certified annually, and that the Board’s approved CE and approved QE lists contain provider contact information, course titles, hours, and delivery methods. The current approved CE list is dated April 8, 2026.

Legal Authority / Compliance References

Kansas’s current appraiser expiration statute is K.S.A. 58-4110, which provides that certificates and licenses expire annually on June 30. The renewal statute is K.S.A. 58-4112. The Board’s general authority to approve education and adopt rules appears in K.S.A. 58-4105, and fee authority appears in K.S.A. 58-4107. KREAB’s current practical guidance appears on its Education, Renewal Information, Frequently Asked Questions, and Contact Us pages.

How to Renew

Kansas appraisers may renew either on paper using the Board’s renewal application form or online through the Online Licensing System. KREAB says the renewal cycle typically opens around mid to late March, and reminder emails are sent from ksbha@ks.gov when renewal becomes available. Payment of all applicable renewal fees is due at the time of submission.

Pro-Tips for 2026

  • Do not confuse Kansas’s annual renewal date with its two-year CE cycle. You still renew every year, but most CE reporting occurs only in odd-numbered years.

  • Watch for KREAB reminder emails from ksbha@ks.gov and check spam folders. The Board specifically flags that email address on its renewal page.

  • Because KREAB is currently updating forms to reflect the 2026 AQB criteria changes, the safest practice is to verify current instructions on the Board’s website before filing. KREAB’s home page states that the site is under construction and forms are being reviewed and updated.
