Appraiser Continuing Education Requirements
If you hold a Georgia appraiser classification, the Georgia Real Estate Appraisers Board requires annual renewal and continuing education for active appraisers. Georgia’s appraiser renewal form states that active renewal requires 14 hours of continuing education, and Rule 539-1-.16 requires active appraisers, including State Trainee Appraisers, to complete 14 classroom hours of continuing education for each year of the appraiser’s renewal period.

What Georgia appraisers need
Georgia appraisers with an active classification must complete 14 hours of Board-approved continuing education during each one-year renewal period. This requirement applies to active appraisers, including State Trainee Appraisers.

Georgia’s continuing education rule also provides that appraisers may receive CE credit for approved appraisal-related courses, including topics such as real estate appraisal, ethics and standards of professional practice, real estate law, financing and investment, ad valorem taxation, appraisal-related computer applications, and other Board-approved subjects.

USPAP requirement
Georgia requires appraisers with an active classification to complete the current version of the 7-Hour National USPAP Update Course, or its AQB-approved equivalent, in every two consecutive renewal periods. Georgia’s rule states that this USPAP requirement applies to every appraiser with an active classification.

For the current cycle, Georgia appraisers should plan to complete the 2026–2027 7-Hour National USPAP Continuing Education Course during the applicable two-year USPAP cycle and before renewing, based on their individual annual renewal date.

Valuation Bias and Fair Housing requirement
Georgia’s currently available appraiser continuing education rule does not identify a separate Georgia-specific Valuation Bias and Fair Housing continuing education requirement for routine annual renewal. Georgia’s approved CE topics include appraisal-related subjects and any other topics to which the Board gives prior approval.

Appraisers should separately monitor AQB Criteria implementation, Board-approved course offerings, and the Georgia Real Estate Appraisers Board for any future state-specific guidance regarding Valuation Bias and Fair Housing education.

Important Georgia deadlines
Georgia appraiser renewal is handled on an individual annual renewal cycle. The Georgia appraiser renewal form includes a renewal month, renewal date, renewal year, and renewal fee, and active renewal requires 14 hours of CE.

Because Georgia uses an annual renewal structure rather than a single statewide appraiser renewal date, appraisers should verify their individual renewal deadline through the Georgia Real Estate Commission and Appraisers Board online services portal. The online portal allows users to register or log in to manage Georgia Real Estate Commission and Georgia Real Estate Appraisers Board records.

Approved courses
Georgia requires continuing education courses to be Board-approved, unless another rule-based exception applies. Under Rule 539-2-.05, CE may include courses approved by the Board before the appraiser takes the course, qualifying appraisal-related courses, or courses approved by another appraiser regulatory agency in another U.S. state, district, territory, possession, or Canada if the course meets Georgia’s subject-matter requirements.

Georgia also permits nonresident appraisers to satisfy Georgia CE requirements if they have met the CE requirements in their state of residence and the appraisal regulatory program in that state of residence is not disapproved by the Appraisal Subcommittee.

Legal Authority / Compliance References
Georgia appraiser licensing and continuing education requirements are governed primarily by the Georgia Real Estate Appraiser Licensing and Certification Act, O.C.G.A. Chapter 43-39A, and the Georgia Real Estate Appraisers Board rules in Chapter 539. Georgia’s appraiser application materials also reference O.C.G.A. Chapter 43-39A and Rules and Regulations Chapter 539 as the governing legal framework for appraisal activity in Georgia
.
Important CE-related provisions include Georgia Rule 539-1-.16, which requires 14 hours of CE during each annual renewal period and the current 7-Hour National USPAP Update Course every two consecutive renewal periods.

Important course-approval provisions include Georgia Rule 539-2-.05 – Continuing Education, which identifies qualifying CE subject areas, course approval requirements, verification requirements, teaching-credit provisions, repeat-course limitations, and nonresident CE treatment

How to Renew
Georgia appraisers renew through the Georgia Real Estate Commission and Georgia Real Estate Appraisers Board’s online system or by using Board-approved renewal processes. The Board’s online services portal allows users to register, log in, and manage records associated with the Georgia Real Estate Commission and Georgia Real Estate Appraisers Board.

For active renewal, Georgia’s renewal form states that the appraiser must have 14 hours of continuing education, and that every appraiser must complete an AQB-approved 7-Hour USPAP course in every two consecutive renewal periods.

Pro-Tips for 2026
Georgia appraisers should not treat the USPAP requirement as optional simply because Georgia renews annually. The 7-Hour National USPAP Update Course is required every two consecutive renewal periods, so appraisers should track which renewal year in their personal cycle requires USPAP.

Georgia appraisers should also confirm that CE courses are posted to their Georgia record before renewal. Georgia’s renewal and reinstatement materials indicate that required CE courses must be posted to the appraiser’s GREAB record.
