Appraiser Continuing Education Requirements
If you hold a Florida real estate appraiser credential, the Florida Real Estate Appraisal Board requires renewal on a biennial schedule. Florida’s DBPR renewal schedule lists licensed appraisers, registered assistant appraisers, state certified real estate appraisers, and state certified residential appraisers as renewing by November 30 of even-numbered years.

Florida appraiser continuing education is regulated by the Florida Real Estate Appraisal Board, which is part of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. The Board administers and enforces Florida’s real estate appraiser license law, Chapter 475, Part II, Florida Statutes, and its rules are contained in Chapter 61J1, Florida Administrative Code.

What Florida appraisers need
Florida registered trainee appraisers, licensed appraisers, and certified appraisers must complete 30 hours of continuing education during each renewal period. DBPR’s appraiser CE guidance states that the 30 hours must include the 7-Hour National USPAP Update Course and at least 3 hours dedicated to Florida Real Estate Appraisal Law and Board Rules.

Florida Administrative Code Rule 61J1-4.003 likewise requires all registered, licensed, and certified appraisers to complete a minimum of 30 hours of 50 minutes each of appraiser continuing education during each renewal period, as prescribed or approved by the Florida Real Estate Appraisal Board.

USPAP requirement
Florida requires the 7-Hour National USPAP Update Course, or its equivalent, as part of the 30-hour continuing education requirement. The USPAP course must be taught by an AQB-certified USPAP instructor and must avoid significant duplication of material.
For the current cycle, Florida appraisers should plan to complete the 2026–2027 7-Hour National USPAP Continuing Education Course before renewing by November 30, 2026.

Valuation Bias and Fair Housing requirement
Florida Rule 61J1-4.003 identifies valuation bias, fair housing, and equal opportunity among the appraisal-related topics that may satisfy continuing education course approval standards.

Beginning with the 2026 AQB Criteria, appraisers should also be aware of the AQB’s Valuation Bias and Fair Housing education requirements. The Appraisal Foundation’s Criteria page identifies the AQB as the entity that establishes the minimum qualification criteria for real property appraisers, and the 2026 Criteria materials address the new Valuation Bias and Fair Housing education requirement.

Florida appraisers should confirm directly through the Florida Real Estate Appraisal Board, their DBPR online account, and approved course providers whether a particular Valuation Bias and Fair Housing course is required for their renewal, upgrade, or credentialing situation.

Important Florida deadlines
Florida appraiser credentials generally renew by November 30 of even-numbered years. The next standard renewal deadline for Florida appraisers is November 30, 2026.

Florida’s Renew and Manage My License page directs licensees to DBPR online services to renew a license, find license requirements, apply for a license, and update license information.

Approved courses
Florida requires appraiser continuing education to be prescribed or approved by the Florida Real Estate Appraisal Board. Rule 61J1-4.003 provides that the Board may approve appraisal continuing education credit for qualifying courses, seminars, or conferences in real estate appraisal practice areas, and courses must contain at least 2 hours of instruction.

Florida’s Education page also states that appraisers may earn 5 hours of appraiser CE credit for attending an entire FREAB meeting, with a maximum of 7 hours during a renewal cycle, subject to registration and attendance requirements.

The Board’s education page further notes that, effective January 4, 2022, courses may be delivered through synchronous/live-stream and hybrid delivery methods, provided the courses comply with applicable Florida Administrative Code requirements and are properly submitted or resubmitted for those delivery methods.

Legal Authority / Compliance References
Florida appraiser licensing and continuing education requirements are governed primarily by Chapter 475, Part II, Florida Statutes and Chapter 61J1, Florida Administrative Code. The Florida Real Estate Appraisal Board links to both authorities through its Statutes and Rules page.

Important CE-related provisions include Fla. Admin. Code R. 61J1-4.003 – Continuing Education, which establishes the 30-hour CE requirement, the 7-Hour National USPAP Update requirement, the Florida law and rules requirement, and the Board’s course approval standards.

Florida’s biennial renewal schedule is addressed by Fla. Admin. Code R. 61J1-2.002 – Renewal Period, which provides that appraiser registrations, licenses, certificates, and instructor permits are renewed on a biennial basis.

Pro-Tips for 2026
-
Do not wait until late November to complete Florida CE. Florida’s CE package includes required components that are not always interchangeable: 7 hours of USPAP, 3 hours of Florida Appraisal Laws and Rules, and remaining approved specialty/elective appraisal education. DBPR’s reactivation guidance describes the 30-hour CE package as 3 hours of Appraisal Laws and Rules, 7 hours of National USPAP Update, and 20 hours of specialty appraisal courses.
-
Florida appraisers should also confirm that their CE provider reports or documents Florida-approved credit correctly. Florida’s DBPR FAQ directs appraisers to review completed education through DBPR Online Services, which is especially important before the November 30, 2026 renewal deadline.
