Appraisal Law and Rules Update
Meet your Florida law requirement with the Florida Real Estate Appraisal Law and Board Rules Update, a three-hour continuing education course taught live and in real time by webinar. Rule 61J1-4.003(1), F.A.C., requires every registered, licensed, and certified Florida appraiser to complete a minimum of three hours covering the Florida Real Estate Appraisal Law and Board Rules — including an introduction to relevant state and federal law — in each renewal cycle. This course is built to that requirement and rebuilt each cycle against the statutes and rules as they currently stand.
Through twelve units and three written case studies, you'll work through Chapter 475, Part II, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 61J1, Florida Administrative Code, as they apply to daily practice: credentialing and scope of practice, qualification and renewal, professional standards and USPAP as Florida adopts it, the supervision of registered trainees, work file content and retention, the disciplinary framework and its penalty ranges, and the regulation of appraisal management companies.
A closing unit surveys the federal law that operates alongside Florida law — Title XI of FIRREA, appraiser independence and customary and reasonable fees, and the fair housing and equal credit opportunity requirements as applied to valuation. By the end of the session you'll know where the answers live, and you'll leave with a short, dated compliance plan for your own practice built from the amendments that have taken effect since your prior renewal.
Every participant receives a participant manual containing the operative text of Chapter 475, Part II, Chapter 61J1, and the core federal provisions cited in the course, so the material remains a working reference long after the class ends.

This course satisfies the three-hour Florida law and Board rules component of your 30-hour biennial continuing education requirement. It is continuing education only and does not carry qualifying education credit, and it does not satisfy the separate 7-Hour National USPAP Update requirement.
Fee
$85, which includes the participant manual providing the complete course text plus the operative provisions of Chapter 475, Part II, Florida Statutes; Chapter 61J1, Florida Administrative Code; and the core federal provisions cited in the course, bound in as appendices.
No examination is administered. Rule 61J1-4.003(4)(a), F.A.C., provides that synchronous distance education courses do not require a final examination.
What You Will Be Able to Do
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

Determine, from a described assignment and an individual's credential category, whether that person may lawfully perform the assignment in Florida and identify the credential or temporary practice permit that would be required if not.

Distinguish the education, experience, and examination prerequisites among the registered trainee, licensed, certified residential, and certified general categories.

Calculate the reactivation education required for a stated period of inactivity, and determine which of the three reactivation tiers applies.

Determine which standards govern a given Florida assignment, and assess what performing work under alternate standards costs you in experience credit.

Analyze a supervisory appraiser and registered trainee arrangement against Rule 61J1-4.010, F.A.C., and identify each requirement it fails and the exposure each failure creates.

Construct a records and compliance plan for your own practice that satisfies the work file retention requirements of Section 475.629, Florida Statutes.

Analyze a fact pattern involving alleged misconduct, identify the subsections of Section 475.624, Florida Statutes, it implicates, and determine the range of penalties available.

Explain the obligations Florida law places on appraisal management companies and the corresponding duties it places on you when you accept their assignments.

Apply the federal appraiser independence and nondiscrimination requirements to determine the correct response to an engagement instruction that conflicts with them.
